Y6 Crucial Crew
On Tuesday 11 September 2018, the year 6 class visited the Crucial Crew event in Billingham. The children enjoyed learning about;
- coping with dangerous situations;
- how we can best avoid becoming victims of crime, and
- the roles of various organisations.
Leading the input were representatives from the rescue services as well as from the main energy utility providers (ie. gas, electricity, water etc.). The afternoon involved watching and analysing various scenarios (ie. a mock up of a road/cycle accident etc.).
Managed in a fun and interactive way, the emphasis was all about keeping safe and the scenarios which were presented raised children’s awareness of potentially dangerous situations – both around the house and in the locality. The Y6 class said that they had really enjoyed the visit and that it had made them think differently about certain aspects of safety (ie. dealing with the smell of gas, supporting an injured person, steps to take in the event of a house fire, etc.).
